BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS
In order for business managers to be able to function effectively they need to have up-to-date financial data available, current books, and detailed financial reports. I learned the importance of these ideas while I was running my first business Infomedium, Inc. which I started in late 1998. Unfortunately I was so busy keeping the Internet Service Provider infrastructure online and developing customer web sites and applications that I didn't have the necessary time that I needed to spend on the accounting and financial planning side of the business. The result was money spent on the wrong things at the wrong time, countless unaccounted labor hours, and lost profits.
This story is a classic small business startup challenge where ambition, entrepreneourial spirit, and knowledge of some craft drive the business, but lack of proper business management skills keep it from getting past the difficult times. I found this out the hard way by making some pretty costly mistakes, but it helped me identify the shortcomings in my education and resulted in a decision to go back to school and study business management.
Five years and two business degrees later I got what I wanted in terms of business education and now I feel confident in my ability to make much better financial decisions than I've made in the past and I am now able to handle all the necessary accounting and financial work that comes running a business the right way.
